A total of 43 federal search warrants were executed in the Des Moines metropolitan area this morning. The searches at these locations were an official law enforcement action involving officers, agents, and investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF); the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE); Iowa State Patrol (ISP); and a number of Central Iowa drug task forces and police departments.
A male juvenile is hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash near Hawkeye. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to call for car in a ditch on V Avenue near 220th street, about four miles west of Hawkeye. Deputies determined the driver was 18 year old Drake James Thompson of West Union. Thompson was driving northbound when he entered the west side ditch. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says Thompson was believed to be impaired and the incident is under further investigation. The male juvenile was a passenger in the car and received serious injuries, ultimately airlifted to a hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Report of an armed robbery from Subway employees in southwest Cedar Rapids last night…the employees told police they were robbed at gunpoint at the restaurant at 555 Gateway Place SW. The suspect was described as a black male in his late 30s with a handgun. They say the suspect left the store on foot with cash. No one was injured in the robbery and no arrests have been made at this time.
A Cedar Rapids woman was taken to the hospital after a collision in Linn County. 79-year-old Marvel Janko was driving on Covington Road when another car crossed the center line and hit her vehicle. That other car then left the scene. Janko was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.
