So Much For Healing
It’s the worse possible scenario, and one which we suggested would happen…it’s the Friday after election day, and we don’t know who the next president will be.
Sure, record turnout. But we knew that was coming. Sure, record early voting. But we knew that was coming.
And both parties prior to the election said publicly that if the other side won, it would be because of cheating and fraud.
The problem is that there’s enough evidence of shenanigans that the confidence we might have had going into the day is gone…regardless of the outcome.
Democrats falsely claimed that Donald Trump stole the 2016 election from Hillary Clinton. She said it again this week, that the 2016 election was stolen out from under them. No evidence of that. She lost states by ignoring them.
But if the mindset is that they were robbed last time…and that’s what has been stoked consistently…then it’s hardly a surprise that they are bound and determined to not let that happen again. And too many odd things have happened, in too many places, to make it seem innocent.
I have no idea how it will turn out, in terms of who will win and what it will take for that to happen. But I do know that the hallmark of our democracy, election day, has been eroded by decades of supposed changes for the better. They weren’t, they aren’t, and they’ve in part contributed to the mess we’re in today. And I truly don’t know how we get confidence in the system back. We play it fair here in Iowa. Oh, if that were only the case elsewhere.
