Democrat presidential nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden will be making an in-person campaign stop in Iowa this Friday; that word from his campaign yesterday afternoon. Among the early supporters of the Biden 2020 effort was former Iowa governor and Obama administration Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, who told me why he supported Biden in his first run in 1987, and endorsed him prior to this year’s caucuses. Vilsack talked about Biden’s connection to people due to the suffering he has had in his own life. Vilsack says those who believe Biden would be a figurehead who can be manipulated by others have it wrong. Listen to my full conversation with Tom Vilsack in the 10 o’clock hour of KXEL Live & Local today, and later via podcast at kxel-dot-com.

Election Day is one week from today, and Republicans have been looking to reclaim the first congressional district seat they lost two years ago. Their nominee is current state representative Ashley Hinson, who told me yesterday on KXEL Live & Local how the issues of importance have shifted a bit since she began her campaign a year and a half ago in light of the pandemic and derecho, the “one-two punch”, in her words. The Marion Republican also pointed to failures by the Democrats who run the U.S. House who opted to play politics instead of help citizens in need. We told you last hour that Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden will campaign in Iowa Friday. Republican Vice President Mike Pence will visit Iowa the day before, part of a four-state swing Pence will make on Wednesday and Thursday. Pence has visits in Mosinee, Wisconsin and Flint, Michigan on Wednesday…then on Thursday, Pence will hold a “Make America Great Again! Victory Rally” at the Des Moines International Airport at 1:30 p.m. before heading to Reno, Nevada afterwards. Pence held a campaign rally in Iowa earlier this month, and President Trump held a Des Moines rally on October 14.
