One person was injured in a firearms accident at the shooting range at Black Hawk County Park Saturday. A bullet struck the man’s leg, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A man is dead following a motorcycle accident near Fort Dodge. Just after 7 o’clock yesterday morning, police and medics responded to a report of an unresponsive man lying in the grass near the intersection of Hawkeye Avenue and 2nd Street Northwest, with a motorcycle lying nearby. Officers believe the male, in his twenties, had been driving the motorcycle westbound when he lost control and struck a tree at the intersection. Police say it is unclear what time the accident happened.

The woman charged in the death of a teen in rural Fayette County two years ago will not go on trial until at May of next year. Kelli Jo Michael is charged with vehicular homicide-reckless driving and leaving the scene of a deadly accident in connection with the June 2018 death of 14-year-old Kaiden Estling of Maynard. Michael’s jury trial was set to begin this week. Estling was driving a moped south along Highway 150 when he was hit by a vehicle about 2 1/2 miles south of Fayette. Young Arena will be limited to 50 percent capacity, roughly 1,400 fans, when the Waterloo Black Hawks open the 2020-21 season on next month against the Omaha Lancers. After working with Waterloo Leisure Services and Black Hawk County Public Health officials, the hockey team released its 2020-21 Readiness Plan yesterday; it’s a plan that will govern all aspects of rink operations on game nights. Under the plan and current City of Waterloo policy, fans will be required to wear face coverings and observe social distancing designations at Young Arena. Face coverings can only be removed when eating or drinking a beverage. All fans will be in ‘pod’ seating which increases distancing and minimizes fan crossover when entering and exciting their seats. Once inside Young Arena, fans will not be permitted to re-enter the arena should they elect to exit

Meanwhile, the Cedar Rapids Kernels said they are aiming to return to play in 2021, and are seeking the input of fans on their comfort level on various coronavirus-related factors. The organization made the announcement in a post on its Facebook page. The 14-question online survey is open until October 26th.
