Social Media Isn’t, Part Two
Not that long ago, I talked to you in this space about how social media wasn’t…social, that is. It’s home to some of the most vitriolic anonymous bombthrowers around, which I was reminded of yesterday.
You may recall that last week, on KXEL Live & Local, best-selling author Dr. Jerome Corsi told me he had sources that confirmed Joe Biden was given the questions for last night’s presidential debate in advance. We shared that information on social media and with some of the network hosts who are on our station.
Yesterday, Todd Starnes again mentioned the Corsi information in social media and on his website, including the audio segment with Dr. Corsi. He credited KXEL, and I then joined him on his national radio program to talk about the interview.
My oh my, folks had very little to do yesterday midday, apparently, than to like, retweet, and respond to his original post…and it showed again how divided people are. Those who are to the left confused “giving Biden the questions” with giving him the topics and said topics were well known. True, but not what was being said. Oh, and there was obligatory profane name calling about Mr. Starnes, right down to his physical appearance. Those on the right chimed in too, mentioning how Donna Brazile was now at Fox and was at CNN when she leaked debate questions four years ago to Hillary Clinton.
I doubt many of them actually listened to the Corsi comment, even though it was right there. If you believed him in the past, you have no reason not to now; if you didn’t believe him in the past, you would doubt him now. Pretty simple.
Every time I went to Tweetdeck I saw a burst of new reactions so that it was impossible to keep up, and really why would you want to.
Yes, I’ll still use it to post things I think are important. Yes, I’ll still get information from sources I trust. And yes, I’ll treat all responses, positive and negative, with the appropriate grain, or pound, of salt.
