TV Viewing Options
I thought it smart to take care of outdoor chores in the morning over the weekend, because it was just too blessed hot by afternoon. That’s how I found myself in air conditioned comfort late in the afternoon this past Saturday, Independence Day, just as the second annual “Salute to America” was starting from Washington. This year’s event was at the White House, with invited guests seated at tables on the lawn enjoying a picnic and traditional holiday atmosphere.
I decided to roll the dial, as we used to say, to see how cable television outlets were covering the event, which of course featured military flyovers and a speech by the president.
Just as he was speaking, here’s what you’d have found:
C-SPAN was airing the President’s remarks, with a graphic identifying the event and location.
Fox News Channel was airing the President’s remarks, with graphics tied to comments he was making.
MSNBC was airing the President’s remarks, but with a graphic reading “President Holds 4th of July Celebration as Coronavirus Cases Climb”
And CNN? Well, they were airing a commercial…for a form of Pepto Bismol, because after a block of what they consider news, no doubt the audience has an upset stomach.
Not long after, both MSNBC and CNN were showing the president speaking…but with the sound down, so their anti-Trump commentators could talk about how terrible it was the event was being held.
This is the part where you say, “well, what did you expect?” Agreed, I was not exactly surprised…more like disappointed. And it’s good to see hypocrisy and bias on full display like this sometimes.
