Missing Out

So here we are at the first weekend of June. Your calendar has been filling up a little more lately, with the ability to actually get a haircut or maybe go out to dinner.

But something is definitely missing and we’re really going to notice it now.

Many of us enjoyed going to community festivals during summer time weekends. Maybe it was to return to a hometown, maybe it was to participate in your current home’s commemoration of a founder, an agricultural product, or simply the season.

But those have virtually all been canceled, with news about the Iowa State Fair still a week or so away.

I’ve said before that just as some businesses will never reopen following the coronavirus shutdown, I fear that some of these wonderful community celebrations, once momentum is interrupted, may not be back next year.

I hope that’s not the case, because nothing depicts Iowa more than individuals getting together for a positive cause, celebrating everything that is good about the way of life we enjoy here.

We will definitely be missing out on that this summer–especially since now there’s no excuse for not getting that yard work or special project done at home.
