Good Government or Good Health
The U.S. Senate is scheduled to return to work in Washington this coming Monday. At first, the U.S. House indicated its members would be joining them. But apparently leadership did not discuss the plan with members and now that body is still on hiatus.
The optics of our representatives being huddled in their respective basements at home does not fully inspire confidence. Then again, watching members of the House last week wearing masks to cast a vote doesn’t feel right, either. The Senate it is hoping it can move additional judicial appointments and executive branch nominees through the system at a time when other business is dependent upon cooperation from the House.
And logistically, it is far easier to get 100 senators back to work than 435 members of the House.
I have a very hard time criticizing people who do not want to go to work because they do not feel safe. You can’t blame them for that.
Elected officials do have a responsibility to all of us, however. And if there is action to be taken, they need to find a way to make it work.
Usually when Congress is not meeting, I think it’s a good thing because that’s one less day they can do something to mess things up. So gather or don’t gather…but come up with a plan and be efficient about whatever it is you do. That is why we sent you there.News/Talk 1540 KXEL · Iowa Politics — Thu. Apr. 30, 2020
