Numbers Never Lie…Or Else They Do
Take them for what they’re worth, but two new surveys this week say Iowa is the 8th worst state for working from home…but the 5th least slowed down by COVID-19.
This is from a personal finance website called WalletHub…and taken together, I guess they aren’t that inconsistent.
The biggest issue facing work from home folks in our state is the the set up…we rank 49th in the survey in terms of average home square footage, so finding dedicated space to work from home is tough…plus we are 35th in terms of internet access. That connect-every-acre to broadband plan of a while back still has a ways to go.
Then again, because so many of our jobs are classified as essential, we haven’t had much change to daily schedules according to the survey…we rank 48th in terms of workplace mobility changes, and 30th in terms of residential mobility changes. And only one state had fewer changes to grocery and pharmacy access than Iowa.
The business that supports Iowa’s economy, agriculture, and our blend of rural and urban, leads our uniqueness to at first seem contradictory in limited surveys; but together, it creates a way of life we are eager to get fully back to sooner than later.
