Iowa City protest marks Missouri killing

More than 100 people gathered in Iowa City to protest police actions in the wake of an officer's killing of a black teenager in Missouri.

Those who attended the Thursday evening rally at the downtown pedestrian mall called for justice in the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot by a white officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

They also expressed concern that something similar could happen in Iowa City.

Since Brown was killed, some residents have criticized the police response that included military-style vehicles and officers who brandished assault weapons.  At the Iowa City protest, some speakers questioned why the Johnson County Sheriff's Office had acquired a large, mine resistant vehicle.

The protest was peaceful and ended after about an hour.
