Agencies benefit from U.S. Venture Open

There's a new fundraising record for the U.S. Venture Open, and the money from last year's event went to help 24 programs and initiatives through the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

Spokeswoman Tammy Williams says they handed out almost $840,000 through the two-dozen grants. She says seven of them went to programs or initiatives that deal with mental illness in adults and children.

Donations from the event also go to agencies in the Green Bay and Oshkosh areas.

Yesterday's golf outing and dinner brought in $2.3 million. That's about $100,000 more than the 2010 record.

Williams says another of last year's grants went to a program that helps Hispanic and Hmong children get ready for kindergarten.
