Work release inmate escapes Waterloo facility

Authorities say an inmate has escaped from a work release facility in Waterloo.

The state Department of Corrections says 22-year-old Marquez Alexander Martin was placed on escape status Saturday after he failed to return from a job assignment.

Martin is serving a 15-year sentence for several convictions, including assault causing serious injury.  He was transferred to work release in June, about two years after the start of his sentence.
