Gillespie running for Assembly seat

Five Republicans are running for the open Assembly seat in the 55th district and one of them is a former advocate for small businesses.

Steven Gillespie says one of his priorities would be to do away with the Common Core standards for state schools. He says he also wants to keep control of technical colleges local. Gillespie says there's been talk of changing that, now that the schools rely on the state, for more funding.

Gillespie will face John Lehman, Jay Schroeder, Ryan Pheifer, and Mike Rohrkaste, in next Tuesday's primary.
