Ames boy dies while riding bike

A 13-year-old boy has died after the bicycle he was riding collided with a vehicle near Ames.

Timothy Jenks was killed Thursday afternoon while riding his bike southeast of Ames.

The Story County Sheriff's Office says Jenks was riding with seven others when a vehicle tried to pass the cyclists.  Jenks bumped into another bike, causing him to veer into the path of the vehicle.

The driver swerved into a ditch to avoid the boy but still hit him.

Passersby and other cyclists performed CPR but the boy couldn't be revived.
