Man pulled from Shell Rock River dies at hospital

A 79-year-old Mason City man who was rescued from the Shell Rock River last weekend has died.

A spokeswoman at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa on Wednesday said that Donald Bakken had died.

Bakken was pulled from the Shell Rock River near Rock Falls on Saturday night.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Department says Bakken had been tubing on the river with a friend.  Authorities received a report of an unresponsive man in the river, and by the time emergency responders arrived, he'd been pulled out of the river.
