Cedar Rapids to close boat ramps Sunday

Due to heightened Cedar River water levels, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department will be closing boat ramps at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22nd.

By closing the boat ramps, boats and other water craft are discouraged from being on the Cedar River when the river level is at 13 feet or higher.  This is due to the increased risk of boating accidents with swift moving water, strong currents, and rapidly moving debris.

Boat ramps within the City limits will be closed from Sunday evening until Thursday, June 26th because river water levels are expected to be at 13 feet or higher during the period.  Barricades will be placed in front of the boat ramps.

The boat ramp closure period may be modified if river level projections are revised by the National Weather Service.
