Eastern Iowa Airport to stage emergency drill

A full-scale disaster drill has been scheduled for May 31, 2014, at approximately 8:45 a.m. at The Eastern Iowa Airport.

This drill will test the effectiveness and interaction of the Airport's Emergency Plan with responding local, county, and state agencies affected by a disaster.  The drill will simulate an airplane accident involving multiple injuries.

During the training, Airport Rescue Firefighters (ARFF) will be the first responders and will attack a live fire produced to simulate a fully engulfed aircraft.

The aircraft firefighting trainer will be staged at the south end of Runway 13/31 as part of a mock crash site of a jet.

Airport Public Safety, EMS, and dozens of other departments will be participating in the drill along with support from Linn County Emergency Management Service and The City of Cedar Rapids.

The full scale emergency plan exercise is required for all commercial airports by the FAA every three years.
