Emerald ash borer confirmed in Bremer County

Officials have confirmed the presence of the destructive emerald ash borer in both northeast and southeast Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says evidence of the insect was recently found in a tree in Eddyville in Wapello County, as well as trees in Waverly in Bremer County.

Officials issued a statewide quarantine in early February that restricts moving certain woods from Iowa into non-quarantined areas of other states.  Eight counties in Iowa have confirmed infestations of the bug, which are known to destroy ash trees.

Any suspicious trees should be reported to officials.
