Bill calls for minors to get permission to tan

A state lawmaker believes minors shouldn't be able to use a tanning bed, without their parents' permission.

Sen. Fred Risser of Madison is introducing a bill that would affect 16 and 17 year olds. He says they don't know the potential long-term health impacts.

The Democrat's proposal calls for parents to sign a form, at the tanning salon. He says the owners of a salon could lose their license, if they would break the rule.

Risser started talking with lawmakers yesterday, to see if they would sign on to the bill.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, a person's chances of getting skin cancer jump by 75 percent, if they're frequently exposed to UV rays, when they're under 35.
