Cowles pushes for Family Care in 7 counties

A program that offers long-term care options for the elderly and people with disabilities could be coming to more parts of northeast Wisconsin.

Sen. Rob Cowles is pushing a bill that would expand Family Care to seven northeast Wisconsin counties. He says it's a great program that could save the counties about $30 million over 10 years.

The Allouez Republican says he doesn't understand why it's not already in place, when 57 counties already have it. He wants to make it available in counties like Brown, Shawano, and Oconto.

Cowles says a study by the health services department shows that Family Care offers more cost-effective long-term care than what the counties currently offer.
