Senate won't act on increased campaign limits

The leader of a political watchdog group says he's pleased that a bill to raise political donation limits will not become law.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald announced last week that the proposal to double individual donation limits won't come up for a vote in the spring. Jay Heck of Common Cause says the Republican from Juneau knew that it wouldn't pass.

Heck says several Republicans also didn't like a part of the bill that would double special interest donation limits to political committees, from $150,000 dollars to $300,000. He says they thought that would give too much power to the leaders of the Senate and Assembly.
