The Cherry Sisters' First Trial

Event Date: April, 24 2014

Event Times: 7:00 pm

The Cedar Rapids Public Library is excited to present “The Cherry Sisters’ First Trial” on Thursday, April 24, at 7 pm, and Sunday, April 27, at 3 pm, in Whipple Auditorium at the downtown library.

“The Cherry Sisters’ First Trial” is an original production by local playwrights Sonya Darrow and Kelly Shriver Kolln.  In 1893, the five Cherry Sisters from Marion, Iowa rapidly rose to vaudeville fame, thanks to their antagonistic relationships with audiences and the local press.  After only three performances, it became clear: the Cherry Sisters were here to stay.  This short play weaves together historical accounts (often conflicting) of the sisters' early show biz career.

Playwrights Sonya Darrow and Kelly Shriver Kolln, along with director Rachel Potthoff, will answer questions from the audience about the play and its historical context immediately following each performance.

The performance is free to attend and no registration is required. Doors open half an hour before each show.
