Youth Archery Day

Event Date: November, 16 2013

Event Times: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

As Hunger Games fans gear up for the November 22nd release of Catching Fire, Naturalist Sarah Wendt is busy preparing for Wickiup’s first Youth Archery Day.

Held on Saturday, November 16th from 10-Noon, this outdoor event will be an introduction to shooting recurve bows – a traditional bow style similar to the one used by heroine Katniss Everdeen.  Sarah is one of two qualified instructors that will help students determine eye dominance, practice proper form and execute shooting exercises.  Class size is limited to ensure the best personal instruction and lots of time with the bows.  Class starts inside but then moves outdoors for shooting.  Participants should dress warmly.

This event targets ages 11 – 16, but Wendt encourages any member of the public who may be interested in future archery programs with traditional bows to contact her at Wickiup.  “There is so much excitement surrounding archery right now,” Sarah says, “We are discussing the possibility of more events and different age groups.  We would love feedback.”

Cost for Youth Archery Day is $10 per participant.  Please call Wickiup Hill Learning Center at 319-892-6485 to register by November 14th.
Youth Archery Day will be held at the Wickiup Hill Learning Center.
